2025 Nissan Kicks "Shift-to-Park" Warning Recall

Risk: High - Potential vehicle rollaway when not in Park
Affected Vehicles:
  • 2025 Nissan Kicks vehicles
Issue:

The "Shift-to-Park" warning may not activate as intended when the vehicle is shut off and still in a gear other than "Park." These vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."

Recall Consequence:

When the vehicle is not in "Park" and the ignition is shut off, the vehicle could move unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a vehicle rollaway and crash.

Remedy:

Dealers will reconfigure the body control module (BCM) to activate the "Shift-to-Park" warning, free of charge.

What to Do:
  • Watch for notification from Nissan (letters began January 29, 2025)

Issue:

A software error may cause the rearview camera to display a blank screen when the vehicle is in reverse. These vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Recall Consequence:

Reduced rear visibility when backing up increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy:

Dealers will update the software on the vehicle's center information display for free.

What to Do:
  • Owner notification letters expected to be mailed July 1, 2025

2025 Nissan Kicks Weight Mislabeling Recall

Risk: Critical - Potential vehicle overloading
Affected Vehicles:
  • 2025 Nissan Kicks vehicles with incorrect certification labels
  • 2025 Nissan Kicks SR trim with optional 19-inch wheel package
Issue:

The certification label may have been printed with incorrect Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) values. Additionally, certain SR trim vehicles may have incorrect wheel size information on the certification label.

Recall Consequence:

An overloaded vehicle can increase the risk of a crash. Vehicles with incorrect wheel and tire information may lead to tires that are inflated improperly, which can also increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy:

Dealers will install new labels, free of charge. Some owners will receive replacement labels by mail.

What to Do:
  • Watch for notification from Nissan (letters expected May 12, 2025)
  • Be cautious about vehicle loading until labels are corrected
